1. Scope of the service
KitapBuurt connects users listing children’s books with users who want them. KitapBuurt is not the seller, buyer, payment intermediary, delivery company or a party to their agreement.
2. Account and eligibility
- You must be at least 18 to use the service.
- Your account information must be accurate and current.
- You are responsible for activity through your account.
- You must not transfer your account or allow it to be misused.
3. Listing rules
Your listings must:
- Relate to books you own or are authorised to share,
- Contain accurate photos, descriptions, prices and condition details,
- Not infringe others’ personal information or rights,
- Comply with the law and our community purpose.
We may remove misleading, illegal, inappropriate or irrelevant content and restrict account access where necessary.
4. Reservations and communication
A reservation holds the book from other users for a limited period; it is not a completed sale or binding payment commitment. Users arrange the place, time and any payment between themselves. Reservations not confirmed in time may expire automatically.
5. Payment and handover
KitapBuurt does not take in-app payments and is not a delivery company. Collection or PostNL shipping is arranged between users. When PostNL is selected, the buyer explicitly accepts the displayed shipping fee; the seller must not buy a label or ship until the payment appears in their bank account.
Reservation parties may use in-site messages for place, time and payment details. Sharing phone or email details is each user’s choice. KitapBuurt does not verify a Tikkie link’s amount, recipient or payment result; users must check the domain, amount and recipient name before paying.
6. AI suggestions
Titles, authors, languages and other fields generated from book photos are automatic suggestions and may be wrong. The listing owner must review and correct all details before publishing.
7. Prohibited uses
- Fraud, harassment, spam or misleading communication.
- Attempts to bypass platform security or disrupt the service.
- Collecting or using another user’s information without permission.
- Creating excessive traffic or copying data with automated tools.
- Illegal content or content infringing intellectual-property rights.
8. Content and licence
You retain rights to your listing content. By publishing it, you give KitapBuurt only the limited licence needed to operate the service, display the listing and provide related features. Removing the listing ends that licence, though security and legal records may be unaffected.
9. Service availability
We work to keep the service reliable but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. Features may be changed, stopped or limited for security, maintenance or product development.
10. Limitation of liability
Communication, payment, book condition, meetings and handover are the users’ responsibility. To the extent permitted by law, KitapBuurt is not liable for indirect losses from user transactions or third-party services.
11. Account restrictions
If these terms are breached, or where there is a security risk or misuse, we may remove listings, cancel reservations or restrict account access temporarily or permanently.
12. Returns and disputes
KitapBuurt is a platform that connects individual sellers and buyers; it is not the seller of products. Returns and exchanges are resolved directly between buyer and seller.
- In-person handover: The buyer must inspect the book before accepting it. Problems noticed at handover should be discussed with the seller before completing the reservation.
- Shipping with PostNL: If the book does not match the described condition or the wrong item was delivered, the buyer must notify the seller within 14 days of delivery via in-site messaging. The seller is obliged to accept returns of items that do not match the description.
- Dispute: If the parties cannot agree, you may contact us at contact@kitapbuurt.com ; the situation will be assessed and mediation offered.
Due to the second-hand and private-sale nature of the platform, the statutory right of withdrawal under Dutch consumer law (14-day herroepingsrecht) applies only to professional sellers; it is not a legal obligation for private sellers. Nevertheless, every seller is expected to accept returns of items that differ from the listing or are damaged.
13. Changes and contact
We may update these terms as the service develops. The current version and date are published on this page. For questions, contact us at contact@kitapbuurt.com .
